Are two speed pumps still relevant?
With the development of highly efficient variable speed pool pumps, two-speed pumps have largely been superseded.
Two speed pumps do offer considerable cost savings for the pool owner. In low speed, the pump runs at half speed (1725 RPM) and uses only 1/4 of the electricity. Over the course of a year, this can save the pool owner a LOT of money.
What are the benefits of a variable speed pump over a two speed pump?
- Greater speed control – the two speed pump has two settings – high (3450 RPM) or low (1725 RPM). The variable speed pump offers exact speed control between 1100 RPM and 3450 RPM.
- Longer lasting motor – a two speed pump still has a standard style motor that will typically last only 3-5 years, and a replacement two speed motor is $700 or more installed. Variable speed motors are permanent sealed magnet motors and usually last 10 years or more.
- Full AquaLink integration – with an iAquaLink system, you can set up to eight different speed settings for various operations (spa, cleaner, circulation, heating, freeze, etc).
