Whether you are looking to put in a new custom pool or are wanting a pool renovation, we want to make sure you make the right choice. To help you do this, use the following list offour things to demand from your pool builder. These are not difficult things to come up with. In fact, your pool builder should have them on hand ready to give to you. Getting these four things will help you decide if they are the right fit for you.

Past Examples from Your Pool Builder

First and foremost, your pool builder should be able to show you examples of their past work. When looking at examples of your contractor’s work, they should be able to give you names and experiences that can prove this was real work and that you can trust them. Make sure you are specific with them as well. If you have a design in mind, ask for examples of this type of design and everything included.

Be on the lookout for scams, though. Some contractors will try to use staged or stock images as their examples. If the photos contain mountains for instance or generally don’t fit with the North Texas landscape, they might not be someone to trust. Another common practice is to show a pool “They designed”, which means they were not responsible for actually constructing the project and providing the service after the build you should expect.

Pool Builder References and Reviews

Another thing to ask for is actual references. Your pool builder should be able to provide you with a list of references and past customers that you can contact. To make sure you’re making the right decision, call these references and ask them about their experience with this pool builder.

Be wary of Builders that have overwhelmingly positive reviews- this is a sure sign that their reviews are fake or ”managed” and the bad reviews are kept out of the search engines. No one is perfect on a job as complex as a pool build, and no one can make everyone happy. The key is finding a builder that you communicate well with and feel comfortable with.

Pool Builder License and Insurance

To ensure you are going to be covered, ask your pool builder for a copy of their liability and Workman’s Compensation insurance. This protects you from any harm or damage that may take place while on your property. A job site can be dangerous, so you want to make sure you are not liable for any issues or problems that occur on the job site.

Written Contract from Your Pool Builder

The last thing to get from your contractor is a written contract. This estimate should go over the price and clearly explain the materials to be used on your project. Having a clear, concise document protects you from surprises down the road. The contract should also clearly explain what the warranty period is, and what it covers. If these are not specific, you could potentially have expensive and surprising issues during the build and down the road.
